How to Become the Best Version of Yourself
Everyone has an idea of who they want to be – the best version of themselves.
But often, deeply rooted beliefs stand in our way and unconsciously hold us back from reaching our full potential.
Maybe you know that quiet voice in your head that makes you doubt yourself or keeps you from taking action – even though you want more.
This is exactly where change begins.
In this article, you’ll learn how to recognize these inner blockages and grow step by step into your best self.
1. Define your best self: Who do you want to be?
Before you can reach your full potential, you need to get clear on what your best self actually looks like.
Often, we only have a vague idea. We think about it – but rarely take the time to define it clearly.
And that’s where change begins.
Ask yourself:
- How do I want to feel?
- What values are important to me?
- What qualities do I want to bring more into my life?
It’s not enough to say, “I want to become the best version of myself.”
You need to engage with that version consciously.
Imagine you were already living that life.
- How would you think?
- How would you act?
- What habits would you have?
I personally ask myself this question often:
What would my best self do right now?
Take time for this process.
Journaling can help you create a clearer picture. Write down how your best self lives, feels, and makes decisions.
The clearer your vision becomes, the easier it is to act accordingly in your daily life.
2. Understand your beliefs: What is holding you back?
Our beliefs often develop early – through experiences, upbringing, and our environment.
Some of them support us. Others limit us.
You might recognize thoughts like:
- I’m not good enough
- I’ll never succeed
- I can’t do this
- I’m not smart enough
- I’m not allowed to make mistakes
- Success is difficult
These are not facts.
They are learned thoughts.
And that means: You can change them.
Become aware of your inner dialogue.
- How do you speak to yourself?
- Which thoughts keep coming back?
- Do they support you – or hold you back?
Ask yourself:
- Is this really true?
- Where does this belief come from?
- Is there evidence against it?
This kind of reflection isn’t always easy – but it’s essential for real change.
3. Replace limiting beliefs with new ones
Once you’ve recognized your beliefs, you can begin to change them consciously.
Your best self is not created by one big decision – but by the thoughts you repeat every day.
Instead of:
“I’m not good enough.”
→ I am growing and allowed to learn.
“I will never succeed.”
→ I can develop the skills I need.
The key is: Your new thoughts should feel believable.
If “I am valuable” feels too far away, start with:
“I am enough.”
It’s not about forcing yourself to believe something – it’s about gradually shifting your thoughts.
Repetition is key.
Your brain adapts to what you think regularly. Over time, new thought patterns feel more natural.
Speak your new beliefs out loud or write them down. This helps anchor them more deeply.
4. Take realistic steps toward your best self
Becoming your best self doesn’t happen overnight.
Give yourself time – and enjoy the process instead of overwhelming yourself with huge expectations.
Start with small, manageable steps.
Be proud of yourself for even starting this journey.
- Set clear, realistic goals
- Focus on small changes
- Be patient with yourself
Write down three small things you can do today to move closer to your best self.
5. Surround yourself with positivity and inspiration
Your environment has a huge impact on your growth.
Surround yourself with people who uplift you instead of bringing you down.
People with a positive mindset.
Something I’ve noticed on my own journey:
When you start working on your mindset and thinking more positively, you naturally spend less time with people who don’t feel good to be around.
You begin to notice how certain energies affect you.
And over time, some people may naturally fade out of your life.
That’s okay.
Find inspiration:
- Read inspiring books or articles
- Listen to motivating podcasts
- Spend time with people who uplift you
The more you surround yourself with positivity, the more you grow.
6. Setbacks are part of the journey
There will be days when you doubt yourself or feel like you’re not making progress.
That’s normal.
In those moments, it might feel like failure.
But ask yourself:
Would your best self give up because of a setback?
Probably not.
Setbacks are not a sign that you’ve failed.
They are part of the process.
They show you where you are – and what you can learn.
What matters is not whether setbacks happen, but how you respond to them.
Keep going – even when it doesn’t feel perfect.
7. Take action: Your best self is created through action
You can reflect, plan, and think as much as you want.
Real change happens when you take action.
Many people stay stuck in the thinking phase.
They know what they want to change – but don’t act on it.
Maybe you know that feeling too.
Take a moment and reflect:
- What fears are holding me back?
- Are there beliefs that stop me from taking action?
- Do I truly believe in myself?
Once you recognize these thoughts, you can start to question and release them.
And then comes the most important step:
Take action.
Because your best self is not created by thinking – but by doing.
Your best version starts today
There is no better time than now.
There is no perfect moment to begin.
Don’t wait until you feel ready.
Start now.
Growth happens when you step outside your comfort zone and try something new.
Be kind and patient with yourself.
Celebrate your progress.
Stay curious.
You already have everything within you to become the best version of yourself.
Believe in yourself, enjoy the journey, and take every opportunity to create a life that feels truly fulfilling.
